van Heyningen and Haward chosen for Urban Design Framework Panel
We have been chosen from a shortlist of 42 and an original longlist of 185, to be on the Urban Design Framework Panel, organised by Design For London. A part of the selection process involved an exhibition board of ideas on the theme ‘If I could design London I would…’ which were exhibited at Somerset House as a part of the London Festival of Architecture.

van Heyningen and Haward and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios selected for LSC Framework Agreement
Joint Venture for Further Education was formed in 2007 by van Heyningen and Haward Architects and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (with Arup as its main consultant) in order to take on more and larger work in the Further Education Sector. We were recently selected to join the Learning and Skills Council’s framework agreement for the Southern region, which will deliver all new Further Education buildings in the next few years.

RIBA Award for Events Centre
We are delighted to announce that the Trinity Events Centre received an Eastern region award in the 2008 RIBA Awards.

RICS Award for RSPB Centre
The RSPB Environment and Education Centre received the award in the Regeneration category of the East of England region. We are thrilled to receive the award, particularly as regeneration is so important for us to be involved in. We are also delighted at how a small project can punch above its weight.

Civic Trust Award Commendations
van Heyningen and Haward has been awarded two Civic Trust Award Commendations for the RSPB Environment and Education Centre and Kaleidoscope, Children and Young People’s Centre. Both projects also won RIBA Awards in 2007 and the RSPB Centre was one of the projects for which the practice was named BD Education Architect of the Year. The judges felt that the projects submitted demonstrated the practice’s "huge enthusiasm for the sector" and our "passion and commitment" to design buildings that are full of delight.

As a result of the BD Education Architect of the Year Award, van Heyningen and Haward was interviewed for the February issue of BD Magazine, in an article entitled 'Top Of The Class' which profiled the office and our recent work. You can read the article here.

New Further Education Projects
van Heyningen and Haward has been awarded the contract to design and deliver the masterplan for Sussex Downs College at Lewes and Eastbourne in East Sussex. The value of the construction is in excess of £150m across the two campuses and includes the provision of general purpose teaching space, entrance and reception facilities, a performing arts building and a sixth form centre.

The practice has also been appointed by Chelmsford College to design approximately 16,000m2 of new academic and vocational training facilities. The first phase of the c.£38m project will be to prepare designs for an Application in Principle for funding from the Learning and Skills Council.
