Lilian Baylis Theatre Refurbishment, Sadlers Wells
About The Project
The entrance to the Lilian Baylis Theatre is also the stage door to the main Sadler's Wells Theatre. As a result, the atmosphere in the foyer is exciting and energised, and reflects the buzz of backstage. In refurbishing this space, improving the signage outside and the acoustics in the theatre itself, we were mindful of the importance of keeping this spirit. The main intervention is a suspended ceiling fitment which runs from entrance to reception desk, and along to the theatre doors. The theatre itself, which had been used in the past as a recording studio, was relit and stripped of its redundant lining making a significant improvement to the acoustics. The work was carried out to a demanding programme using breaks in the show schedules.
