The Whitty Theatre, Luckley House School
About The Project
The new Whitty Theatre is visible on entering the school grounds, and as such needed to be welcoming and to look dynamic and interesting. A fully glazed foyer linking the four distinct blocks, together with carefully positioned windows, allows enticing views into and out of the key rooms and links the new building with the rest of the school. Sited adjacent to a Grade II listed Edwardian house, which forms the core of the School, the blocks are all clad in timber boarding similar to our two previous buildings on the site, but with distinctly different finish treatment to subtly distinguish each use. We worked closely with the school and specialist theatre consultants Charcoalblue, to design the cost-effective 179-seat auditorium, dance and drama studio, workshop and an ancillary block containing offices, classrooms and back of house spaces.
